Anthropic signed a roughly $10 billion, six-year compute contract with Volta Infra Holdings, a cloud start-up founded about six months ago, Bloomberg reported on 4 August 2026, citing people familiar with the matter.

Bloomberg said the deal covers 121 megawatts of Nvidia Vera Rubin chip capacity, delivered in two phases targeting 31 December 2026 and 31 March 2027. Volta announced a $10 billion deal with an unnamed major AI lab the same day. Anthropic declined to comment.

The capacity will run at Bitdeer's Tydal campus in Norway, under a 16-year lease Bitdeer's Tydal signed with a Volta unit, according to the notes. That lease involves about $4.7 billion in scheduled payments, rising to as much as $8 billion over 24 years if renewed, backed by roughly $1.3 billion in standby letters of credit from JPMorgan affiliates.

Volta itself has raised $300 million at a $2.4 billion valuation from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter, Nvidia and the Michael Dell family office, and holds a $5 billion pool to help customers finance chips.

The Volta agreement sits alongside about $71 billion in chip-lease financing Anthropic has arranged in roughly 60 days, according to [The Decoder](https://the-decoder.com/anthropic-locks-in-10-billion-of-compute-from-volta-a-cloud-startup-that-didnt-exist-six-months-ago/). Under that structure, special purpose vehicles buy chips, including Google TPUs, and lease them to Anthropic, keeping the hardware and debt off its balance sheet, with Broadcom backstopping senior tranches.

Blackstone is reportedly leading talks on another financing package, according to [Yahoo Finance](https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/ai/articles/anthropic-spvs-stack-71-billion-000514097.html). A separate $9.1 billion chip-lease deal with Riot Platforms sent Riot shares up 25%.

Contracts of this size used to go only to Amazon, Microsoft or Google, according to the notes, which attribute the surge in Anthropic's compute deals to demand for its Claude models outrunning its existing capacity.

Critics cited in the notes flagged that Nvidia is both an investor in Volta and its chip supplier, a structure that could magnify losses across the supply chain if AI demand disappoints.
