Claude Opus 4.8 lands six weeks after 4.7 — and the cadence is the message

A 1M-token context window and 128K max output, plus three engineering levers: effort control (dial how hard the model works), a Dynamic Workflows research preview in Claude Code that orchestrates parallel subagents, and a cheaper fast mode Anthropic says runs about 2.5× quicker. On capability, Anthropic's own figures cite gains such as agentic coding 64.3%→69.2% — its numbers, so attribute rather than assert.

For developers, the practical wins are the long context and the fast mode — cheaper, quicker iteration on big codebases. For the industry, the six-week cadence plus an explicit tease of a higher tier signals a lab confident enough to pre-announce its own next step. The reliability claim (4× fewer missed code flaws) is the one to test in real workflows, because it's the kind of figure that matters far more than a benchmark delta once you're shipping agents.
