Meta launches enterprise AI unit, hires MongoDB CEO CJ Desai to run it
The new unit will bring Meta's AI stack to businesses; MongoDB shares fell more than 20% on the hire.
The answer
Meta launched Meta Enterprise Platform and hired MongoDB CEO CJ Desai to lead it.
Meta launched a new business unit called Meta Enterprise Platform on Monday and hired MongoDB chief executive CJ Desai to run it as chief enterprise platform officer, reporting directly to Mark Zuckerberg, the company said.
Desai had been MongoDB's chief executive for less than 11 months, having taken the role in November 2025. Before that, he led product and engineering at Cloudflare, and earlier still served as president and chief operating officer at ServiceNow, giving him a long run through enterprise software leadership roles.
Meta said the new unit will bring the company's AI stack to businesses, including its Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code and supporting infrastructure, according to Meta's announcement. The company gave no pricing or launch schedule for the offering.
MongoDB shares fell more than 20% on the news, CNBC reported, as investors reacted to the sudden departure of the database company's chief executive less than a year into the role.
Muse, Meta's AI agent, launched on 8 September and overtook ChatGPT as the top free iOS app, according to CNBC, giving Meta a consumer-side proof point ahead of Monday's enterprise push.
Meta's earlier enterprise products, Workplace and Horizon Workrooms, have both been shut down, leaving the new unit as the company's fresh attempt at selling directly to businesses rather than only to individual consumers.
Zuckerberg said the unit's initial focus would be on "bringing our full technology stack, including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code, and more to businesses and developers to help them grow."
Meta did not name other executives joining the new unit alongside Desai, nor did it say how many staff would be assigned to it at launch, beyond confirming that Desai reports directly to Zuckerberg.
The company also did not say whether Meta Enterprise Platform would operate as a standalone division with its own revenue reporting, or whether it would be folded into Meta's existing reporting structure alongside its other product lines.
Meta has not previously run a dedicated enterprise-sales division built around its AI products, making Monday's launch, and the hire that came with it, a structural change to how the company organises itself as much as a product announcement.
The announcement came a day before MongoDB was due to hold its investor day in New York, according to CNBC, leaving the database company to face investors days after losing the chief executive it appointed last November.
In Meta's announcement, Zuckerberg described the unit as the next major pillar of the company's business. Desai said it would focus on turning Meta's AI stack into products and services that companies can deploy for their own businesses, with security and privacy built in from the outset, as with Muse.
