The answer

Slack launched Slack Code, group chat channels for supervising AI coding agents.

Salesforce-owned Slack announced Slack Code on 20 August 2026, a feature that turns group chats into shared workspaces for supervising AI coding agents. Slack said tagging a coding agent in any conversation spins up a dedicated "code channel" for that task.

The code channels show tabs for the conversation, the agent's plan, code diffs and live previews of HTML output, according to Slack. Team members can see what the agent sees, leave feedback the agent acts on, and approve the finished work before it ships.

Once a task is complete, the channel archives itself and its history remains as an audit log, Slack said.

Launch partners for Slack Code include Anthropic's Claude Code, Cognition's Devin, GitHub Copilot and Vercel's agent, according to Techzine. OpenAI is building an integration, and Slack plans to open the code-channel APIs to other developers later.

Slack Code is included in every Slack plan, though the agents themselves may require a paid account with their own provider, Slack said. The rollout is gradual.

GitHub chief product officer Mario Rodriguez said: "Slack is a strategic part of a broader GitHub promise: humans set direction, agents close the loop."

The launch reflects a shift from a single developer working with an AI agent in a terminal to whole teams supervising agents together, according to VentureBeat. Slack has not detailed a timeline for the broader rollout or for opening its APIs to additional developers.
