Anthropic launches Duet assistant in waitlisted research preview

The assistant checks connected apps every few hours and prepares work for human review, initially for US Pro and Max subscribers.

The answer

Anthropic introduced Duet, a proactive assistant, as a waitlisted research preview for US Pro and Max users.

Anthropic introduced Duet on 21 October, an assistant that prepares work across connected apps for human review. The company said Duet checks those apps "every few hours rather than continuously."

The research preview runs on a waitlist for US Pro and Max subscribers. Anthropic said it is available on dedicated mobile apps and on the web. Team and Enterprise plans are excluded.

Anthropic said Duet is powered by Opus 5.5 and can use Claude memory and skills. A cloud virtual machine lets it continue browser tasks when a user's devices are offline, according to the company.

Duet can reach more than 6,000 Marketplace connectors and plugins, Anthropic said. These include Gmail, QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto and HubSpot.

The assistant needs user approval before it sends messages, makes payments, signs agreements or deletes documents. Anthropic said securities trading and transfers between financial accounts are barred even with permission.

Anthropic also described credential protections, automated checks, prompt-injection defences and sensitive-data filters. Background checks count against existing plan limits, The Neuron reported. Anthropic has published no usage figures or task-completion rates.

Rival products include Meta's Muse for Small Business and OpenAI's Dots, which is rolling out to Pro and Business Premium users.

Duet's reliability in real business workflows is unconfirmed. Anthropic acknowledged that it can misread conversations or urgency, and users cannot yet inspect its browser activity.
